Euthanasia (also
known as good death) is the act of humanely putting an animal to death or
allowing it to die by giving intravenous injection of chemical –which is quick,
painless, and dignified. Most veterinarians decided to put them on “sleep”
because the animals were in severe disease and it is better to take them from
their misery.
In the U.S each
year, approximately 6 to 8 million animals are in animal shelter and even some
of them reclaimed adopted, almost 4 million unwanted cats and dogs are left
homeless. The worst scenario for homeless animals are get hit by cars, die of a
disease, starve, freeze, tortured by cruel juveniles or even picked up by
dealers and sell them to laboratory. Animal shelters are happy to help those
homeless animals, but they do not have the capability to support all of them
until their natural death. When all the abandoned pets were put into the
shelter, they are forced to stay in a small cage and they probably get stressed
and suffer even more. Letting homeless animal on the street was not the
shelter’s willingness. That is why, euthanasia is preferable by most shelters
and veterinarians chose this method for some animals.
Most people considered
put your animal into “sleep” is a cruel act, because it also killing.
Apparently, most veterinarians thought that it is a good thing as it would take
their misery and they do not have to feel pain anymore – as it is painless and
quick. However, there are some people that use violence to get rid of those
innocent animals. In the U.S, there are organisations that provide facilities
to kill animals which give the animal incredible painful and discomfort feeling.
Unfortunately, some animals were killed by using inappropriate and violent way
such as gunshot. Some people randomly shot the animal which they might
survive and they were shot again and again. Even some people still using
electrocution – using electric shock to the animals.
There are 4 ways to euthanize animal, the first one is injection as mentioned above, then there are 3 more methods which causing painful feeling for the animal such as inhalants – by putting the animal into a sealed chamber and high level of
anesthetics gas released. Cervical dislocation – is basically displacement of
the neck of small animal such as mice. Shooting – this method usually used for
big animal such as horse, traditionally shot in the forehead and usually
resulted in instant death.
Overpopulated pet
is one of major issue that is happening at the moment. We could prevent more
animals to be euthanized by prevent their birth through sterilization efforts.
Knowledge about the steps of euthanizing is also important for the owner
whether they have to euthanize their pet or not.

Interesting topic to base you blog on! I personally have mixed feelings about euthanasia to put an animal out of its misery, however it still does seem to be the most favourable method amongst the more cruel and in humane approaches as outlined.
Seeing as animals are helpless souls whose lives hang in the balance of their owners, which have the power to decide when and how they their pet will die, Is an area that I believe lacks significant attention and regulation. Being given the power as a pet owner to decide whether or not they would like their pet to be put down through euthanasia, may lead to bad decisions being made.
I have a family friend who put down their dog through euthanasia after assuming it was too old to continue to live. This to me is quite startling because there could have been the possibility that their dog could of lived a much longer and healthier life, thus meaning that my friends would have made the wrong decision to go ahead with euthanasia to early. I believe a stricter code of compliance and laws must be established, which limits pet owner authority in deciding whether or not their pet should be put down through euthanasia, therefore leaving 100% of that responsibility and authority to a trained professional veterinarian who makes the final call. Don't you believe this will help reduce bad decisions being made on behalf of pet owners going ahead with euthanasia to early, when there is the possibility the animal could still recover from sickness and live longer?

Interesting matter... Quick points that comes to mind :
- We don’t own our souls to make a decision such as killing ourselves! It is expected from some people to argue about owing our souls/lives but I don’t think it is reasonable to think that you owe your pet’s soul as well, and hence it’s up to you to choose to end the pet’s life! (Religious & moral perspective)
- Killing is killing even when we create less horrible names for it whether it was with good intention or bad intention!
- The main argument of the Supporter of human euthanasia usually is the freedom of choice; that is the person is free to choose to end his/her life. However in the Pet euthanasia discussion it is the person who chooses to end the life of His/her PET! therefore if we assume that their argument regarding human Euthanasia was correct, then it is definitely not correct in human euthanasia because in the first example, The person choose to kill himself, and in the second example, The person chose to kill/end someone else’s life which is the pet in this situation.
Another interesting point is that it seems that there is an exaggeration of the issue of the over populated animals in the street! I mean let’s simplify the issue; there are numbers of cats in the street in this city or that place, then what? Since these animals/pets are harmless (most of the time), and does not cost the government & the nation a fortune then why we tend to create an issue from it?
Yes, harmful animal in the street such as awful ferocious kind of dogs could create an issue in the street, because of the fear, and stress that these animal cause to a person or his family.
- Let’s not forget that the nature is created in harmonious way that is every living creature is dependent on other creature and sometimes when human interact with nature cycle we might create a disruption in our eco system.
- Once in china during the communist rule of General Mao, the government decided to get rid of specific kind of birds which was believed to be responsible of destroying the agricultural in the country. Many citizens were involved in the attack and the killings of these birds.
